Women In Tech: Talk + Documentary Screening

Entrepreneurs have the opportunity to take their vision and make it a reality.

This coming Friday evening, we will be celebrating women entrepreneurs with an exclusive talk led by Koh Cha-ly, CEO of Propertypricetag.com, a data company that cleans and analyses large amounts of city data, through its proprietary algorithms. Cha-ly will be enlightening us with her personal Founder story that brought her to where she is now including the founding of Property Price Tag. Alongside that, she will also be sharing the story behind her latest book "The Secret Atlas of Greater Kuala Lumpur" developed in conjunction with Khazanah Nasional Berhad.

The talk will be followed by the screening of She Started It, a feature length documentary film on women tech entrepreneurs, shot on location in Silicon Valley, NYC, Europe, Vietnam, Mississippi & more, that aims to highlight successful role models for young women. It is the first film to show the behind the scenes of running a tech start-up as a young woman.

The schedule for the evening:

8.00pm: Talk led by Koh Cha-ly
8.30pm: She Started It screening
9.30pm: Closing + networking
10.00pm: Ends

More details on both below.

Currently the CEO of Propertypricetag.com, Koh Cha-ly is trained in city planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, USA. She hopes to harvest intelligence from BIG DATA to help governments, city planners, corporations and urban dwellers shape better global cities.

Cha-ly's recent book titled "The Secret Atlas of Greater Kuala Lumpur" takes a closer look at Greater KL through the lens of BIG DATA. The book examines the people of Kuala Lumpur and their quirky behaviours.

For example? Ever noticed the mushrooming cafes in your neighbourhood and wondered who actually buys these RM10 lattes? The number of cafes, it turns out, has a positive correlation to property prices in the surrounding area. Neighbourhoods with a high number of cafes are also neighbourhoods where property prices are most likely to rise.

By examining such correlations and relationships, Cha-ly allows us to view our city from a different perspective and gain insights into the underlying currents that move property markets, as well as the people it hosts.

About Propertypricetag.com: Propertypricetag.com is a data company that harvests, cleans and analyses large amounts of city data, through it's proprietary algorithms to extract trends and patterns in the built environment, It offers this data to the general public as well as public and private sector, in hopes of creating more efficient and transparent property market, improving city planning and shaping sustainable urban environment.

Following five women over two years as they pitch VCs, build teams, bring products to market, fail and start again, SHE STARTED IT takes viewers on a global roller coaster ride from San Francisco to Mississippi, France and Vietnam. Along the way, it weaves in big-picture perspectives from women like investor Joanne Wilson; White House CTO Megan Smith; GoldieBlox CEO Debbie Sterling; and Ruchi Sanghvi, the first female engineer at Facebook.

Through intimate, action-driven storytelling, SHE STARTED IT explores the cultural roots of female underrepresentation in entrepreneurship—including pervasive self-doubt, fear of failure, and risk aversion among young women. It exposes, too, the structural realities women face as they become entrepreneurs, including lack of female role models and investors, and the persistent dearth of venture capital funding made available to women-led companies.
